Doris Lemngole Named USTFCCCA South Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama track and field phenom Doris Lemngole was named the South Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year for the outdoor season, the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced.
Just a little over a week ago at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Lemngole used a world-leading, sub-9:00 run to defend her second consecutive women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase title. The achievement was her fourth career national championship and third individual NCAA crown for the 2024-25 season (2024 cross country, 2025 indoor 5,000m, 2025 outdoor steeplechase). The standout sophomore’s 8:58.15 time became a meet, school and collegiate record as Lemngole now holds four of the top-five fastest women’s steeplechase times in NCAA history.
Additionally, the announcement marks a successful sweep of the South Region Women’s Athlete of the Year award for the West Pokot County, Kenya, native. Lemngole first earned the honor following her cross country national-title-winning performance in 2024, then again during the 2025 indoor season following a 5,000-meter championship and a 3,000-meter second-place finish.
