MARBURG, Germany – Former Alabama men’s tennis alumni Filip Planinsek clinched a three-set victory on Sunday in the M25 Marburg Tournament, in Germany, to win his first professional title.

The recent Crimson Tide graduate battled former Mississippi State foe, Florian Broska, to a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win. Including his victory in the championship match, Planinsek captured five singles wins over the course of the six-day, main draw event.

Sunday’s victory marked the third time the two Southeastern Conference alums have gone head-to-head, as all three competitions have resulted in three-set battles

“It’s just great [to win today]. Florian and I go back to my freshman year, when we faced [off] twice at Mississippi State. I’m very proud of myself and how well I managed myself on the court this week. I think I’m growing and progressing in the right direction. I will never forget Marburg, winning a professional title is just special. Hungry for more!”
