Three Men’s Golfers Named GCAA All-America Scholars
NORMAN, Okla. – Three Alabama men’s golfers have been named to the 2024-25 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars list, the Golf Coaches Associate of America (GCAA) announced Tuesday. Connor Brown, Jones Free and Jonathan Griz were each recognized as a part of the 556 Division I student-athletes from 190 schools to have earn the honor.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar recognition, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically, participate in 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
- After not seeing any action during the fall season, he started all seven spring events for the Tide
- Finished the year with a scoring average of 73.76 strokes per round and a +2.05 average vs. par
- Had a season-best finish at the Linger Longer Invitational, where he placed runner-up
- Closed the event with a 9-under par 207 – all career-best numbers
- Performed well at the 2025 SEC Championships, where he was the team’s second-highest finisher (t32nd) with an even par 210
- SEC Academic Honor Roll
- Saw action in all 11 events of the Crimson Tide’s tournament campaign
- Ended the season second on the team in stroke average (71.97), average vs. par (+0.61) and top 20 finishes (7)
- Also ranked second on the squad in total rounds under par (17) and rounds in the 60s (8)
- Carded a career-best round of 64 at the Fields of Honor Collegiate, helping lead the Tide to the team championship at the event
- Was red hot during the spring when he earned four top 10 and six top 20 results across the Tide’s seven tournaments played
- Finished tied for runner up with teammate Johnathan Griz at the Watersound Invitational with a 7-under par 209 (70-67-72)
- Team captain who was named as a PING All-Southeast Region performer
- Led the team in scoring average (71.27) and average vs par (-0.10), while also topping the team in rounds in the 60s (12) and rounds of par or lower (20)
- Only golfer to have all 33 rounds that he played on the season count towards the team total
- Finished among the top 20 individuals in nine of UA’s 11 tournaments, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the Watersound Invitational
- Earned top-15 finishes in six of the Tide’s seven spring events
- Led Alabama in five tournaments on the year, including an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Reno Regional
