Freshman Miles Leads Five Seminoles In Double-Figures In 87-73 Victory over UT Martin
TALLAHASSEE – Freshman Cam Miles scored a team and career-high 17 points, including 15 in the second half, and Robert McCray V added 16 in the Seminoles’ 87-73 win over UT Martin at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Also in double figures for the Seminoles were Alex Steen with 13 and Lajae Jones and AJ Swinton with 12 points each.
Florida State improved to 3-1 with the victory. The visiting Skyhawks of UT Martin are now 3-1.
Florida State turned the Skyhawks over 26 times, 19 of which were credited as steals for the Seminoles. The 19 steals are tied for the second-most in a single-game in school history. The school record for steals in a game at Florida State is 20 against Tulane on Feb. 6, 1985. The 19 steals were the most in a single game by the Seminoles since they totaled 19 steals against Butler on Dec. 30, 1996.
The 19 Seminole steals is now the third time in the first four games of the 2024-25 season that Florida State has finished the game with double-digit steals. Martin Somerville led all players with four steals. Somerville’s four steals are a season-high and tied his career-high. Somerville has recorded four steals twice before at Binghamton on Feb. 6, 2025, and at Vermont on Feb. 22, 2025.
33 of the Seminoles’ 87 total points were scored as they forced UT Martin into 26 turnovers. Florida State enjoyed a 33-4 margin in points scored off of turnovers.
Somerville also scored six points, recording two made 3-point shots. Somerville is tied for the team lead with 10 made 3-point shots this season.
In addition to Miles’ career-high 17 points, he added two rebounds, a season-high three assists, and a season-high three steals. McCray V totaled three steals and seven assists in 25 minutes of play. McCray V leads the Seminoles with 33 assists on the season.
UT Martin would open the scoring coming off a layup by Andrija Bukumirovic. The Skyhawks would lead the Seminoles 7-2 after the first two minutes before Florida State would score six consecutive points thanks to two McCray V threes, to take the lead 8-7.
Over the next five minutes, the Seminoles outscored UT Martin 17-12 and held a six-point lead, 25-19 with 11:14 left in the first quarter. The Skyhawks would tie the game at 29-29 with six minutes remaining in the first half. From that point, five straight Alex Steen points fueled the Seminoles to take a 43-40 lead into halftime.
Steen finished the game with a season-high 13 points, a team-high seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots. Steen leads the Seminoles with 29 rebounds on the season.
The turning point of the game came as Florida State opened the second half on a 16-2 run, giving the Seminoles a 59-42 lead with 15:23 remaining in the game.
Florida State outscored the Skyhawks 13-6 to close the game and reach the final score of 87-73. Miles was responsible for seven of the Seminoles’ final 13 points, with all seven coming consecutively.
Swinton’s three steals are the most he has recorded in a game since he recorded his previous record of two against Syracuse on Jan. 4, 2025.
UT Martin’s Andrija Bukumirovic led all scorers with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Bukumirovic recorded his second double-double of the 2025-26 season.
The Seminoles return to the Donald L. Tucker Center on November 21 at 6:00 p.m. to take on the Georgia Southern Eagles.
