Dobson and Relays Shine on Opening Day of UGA Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. – Impressive performances from the distance group highlighted the first day of competition for the University of Georgia swimming and diving teams at the 2025 Georgia Fall Invitational Tuesday at Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
 
Through one night of competition, the Georgia women are tied for the lead with Florida at 167 points, while the Bulldog men stand third with 71 points.

  • Women’s 1,650y Freestyle – Freshman Kennedi Dobson continued the outstanding start to her Georgia career with a victory in her first collegiate mile, touching first with an NCAA-cut time of 15:47.61. Dobson’s personal-best time is the fastest nationally this season and makes her the fifth-fastest performer in program history. Additionally, her 1,000-yard split of 9:30.72 ranks ninth in program history. Fellow freshman Clarke Neace finished third with a personal-best NCAA cut of 16:00.95, dropping nearly 43 seconds from her previous PB. Senior Heidi Stalkfleet also earned an NCAA time with a seventh-place mark of 16:24.30.
  • Men’s 200y Medley Relay – Graduate Luca Urlando, sophomore Elliot Woodburn, senior Ruard van Renen, and sophomore Tane Bidois prevailed with an NCAA A-cut time of 1:22.18, the second-fastest in program history. Urlando led off with a 20.97, while Woodburn pushed the Bulldogs ahead with a massive 22.56 breaststroke split.
  • Women’s 800y Freestyle Relay – Seniors Ieva Maluka and Shea Furse, sophomore Marie Landreneau, and Dobson posted the nation’s fastest time with a winning mark of 6:53.55, the fourth-fastest in program history. Maluka led off with an NCAA cut of 1:44.38, while Dobson anchored at 1:41.91.
  • Men’s 800y Freestyle Relay – Junior Tomas Koski, Urlando, senior Sam Powe, and sophomore Will Gavin placed third with an A-cut time of 6:12.73, the 10th-fastest in program history. Koski led off with a season-best 200y free time of 1:31.42, the No. 10 time in Bulldog history.
  • Women’s 200y Medley Relay – Sophomores Katie Belle Sikes and Charlotte Headland, senior Olivia Della Torre, and freshman Marin Clem finished sixth with a season-best time of 1:37.85. Sikes led off with a personal-best 50y backstroke split of 24.65.
  • Men’s 1,650y Freestyle – Redshirt fifth-year Tommy-Lee Camblong finished ninth with a time of 15:07.89.

The Georgia Fall Invitational continues Wednesday with the 100y butterfly, 400y individual medley, 200y freestyle, 100y breaststroke, women’s 3-meter, men’s 1-meter, and 200y freestyle relay. Swimming prelims begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by diving prelims and consolation at 11:30 a.m., swimming finals at 5:30 p.m., and diving finals at 6 p.m. Admission is free for all spectators at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
