Patrick Mannelly Award Announces Underwood as a Semifinalist
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Patrick Mannelly Award has named 10 long snappers as semifinalist’s for the 2025 season.
Underwood entered the season as the reigning recipient of the Patrick Mannelly Award, and has advanced as a semifinalist for it for a second straight year. Since receiving the award, Underwood’s production level on special teams has not slowed down.
This season, the Lake Mary native continues to serve as the primary long snapper and has already totaled two tackles (one solo) and a fumble recovery across 87 snaps. Underwood tallied 112 snaps across the 2024 season, totaling three solo tackles and one fumble recovery.
The 10 semifinalists will be narrowed down to a final three on Monday, Nov. 24 with the winner being chosen on Satruday, Dec. 13.
The Patrick Mannelly Award is presented to the best long snapper in college football each year, with the first award being given out in 2019. The award was named after Patrick Mannelly who played as the long snapper for Duke from 1993 to 1997 and had a NFL career with the Chicago Bears from 1998 to 2013, where he never recorded a bad snap. The award also helps with the Bernie’s Book Bank, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding ways to help children develop their reading skills.
