Meet Guide: NCAA South Regional Championships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.The No. 9/15 Alabama men’s and women’s cross country squads will head to Huntsville, Ala., Friday for the NCAA South Regional Championships. Located at the John Hunt Cross Country Running Park, the women’s 6k race will start at 8:30 a.m. CT, with the men’s 10k race beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The meet, streamed live on ESPN+, marks the second time this season that the Crimson Tide will traverse the Huntsville course, having first competed at the Southern Showcase earlier this season.

  • Time (CT): Women 6k – 8:30 a.m. | Men 10k – 9:30 a.m.

The Field

  • Among the Southeastern Conference, the Crimson Tide will be joined by:

    • Auburn (men), Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State (women) Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt

  • Also joining Alabama and host school North Alabama is:

    • Alabama State (women), Austin Peay, Belmont, Chattanooga, ETSU, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State, Georgia Southern (women), Georgia Tech, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Memphis (men), Mercer, Miami, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi Valley (men), North Florida, Samford, South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Miss. (women), Stetson, Tennessee State (men), Tennessee Tech, Troy (men), UAB (women), UCF (women) and UT Martin

The Regional Rundown

  • Nine Division I cross country regionals will be held on Friday, each hosted by a school in that region

    • Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Mountain, Northeast, South, South Central, Southeast, West

  • The top-two teams, in each region, will secure automatic bids to the National Championship
  • 13 teams will then have the ability to earn an at-large bid, as announced on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 4 p.m. CT, by the NCAA Division I Cross Country Subcommittee
  • The first four regional finishers, not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team, will also secure an auto-bid to the national meet
  • Only two individual at-large bids are selected for the Championships, announced later by the Subcommittee
