Noles Fall in Five Sets to No. 14 Miami
The Noles came out on fire in front of the raucous crowd and dominated the set one in all facets. The Noles hit .269 while holding Miami to a -.077 hitting percentage led by four blocks in the set. The Noles used a 7-1 run to take a 20-12 lead and closed out the set 25-17.
The Hurricanes bounced back with a 25-15 win in set two tie up the match.
Miami looked to have carried the momentum into set three as it jumped out to a 15-7 lead, but the Noles went on a staggering 13-1 run behind some tough serving from Iane Henke and Caylan Russ to take a 20-16 lead. Miami cut the lead to one at 21-20, but the Noles never surrendered the lead and got some key kills from Iane Henke. With a one point lead at 24-23, the Tully crowd forced a service error to give the Noles the 2-1 advantage in the match.
Miami jumped out to a quick lead again in set four, but the Noles were unable to mount a comeback as they fell 25-16 to force a fifth set.
The Noles got off to a great start in the fifth set as they held an 8-4 lead as the teams switched sides. The Hurricanes stormed back and scored 11 out of the 13 points to clinch the match.
Henke and Kyleene Filimaua led the way with 19 kills each. Nellie Stevenson recorded a double double with 20 assists and 12 digs.
FSU will be back in action on Thursday night at No. 7 Louisville. First serve is set for 8 p.m. on ESPNU.
