ATHENS, Ga. — Following a record-setting round at the Ka’anapali Classic in Hawaii last week, men’s golfer JD Culbreth has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week.

This marks the first honor of his young Bulldog career.

Culbreth’s 61 in the second round of the Ka’anapali Classic broke the Georgia men’s golf program record for best round at 10-under. His stellar performance also tied the Royal Kā’anapali course record of 61 that has stood since 1991.

The Thomasville, Ga. native finished the tournament tied for seventh on the leaderboard at 13-under.  All three of his rounds counted for the Bulldogs as the team finished third at 47-under par, which is the second-best tournament score in program history.

Culbreth and the Bulldogs will be back in action in the spring, starting with the Puerto Rico Classic February 9-11.
