No. 19 Georgia Bests Kentucky in Penalties; Advances to SEC Semifinals
PENSACOLA, Fla. – In a dramatic contest, the third-seeded University of Georgia soccer team advanced to the SEC Tournament semifinals with a 5-4 penalty kick victory over Kentucky following a 1-1 tie in full time Tuesday afternoon at the Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex.

- No. 19 Georgia (10-3-6) earned its third trip to the SEC semifinals in the last four seasons and 11th overall, prevailing in penalties for the first time since a SEC first round win over Arkansas in 2014.
- Graduate defender BK Harris, redshirt junior midfielder Summer Denigan, redshirt junior defender Assa Kante, and junior midfielder Kiera Staude each converted on the Bulldogs’ first four attempts before senior defender Cate Hardin’s shot was saved. Following a make by freshman defender Maddy Herniter, freshman goalkeeper Hannah Folliard guessed correctly to stop Skye Leach’s attempt and seal the result. Kentucky’s previous miss came on its first attempt as the shot missed wide.
- Georgia outshot Kentucky (12-4-4), 13-12, on the afternoon, but the Wildcats led in shots on goal by a 6-3 margin. Kentucky also earned six corner kicks as opposed to five for Georgia. Folliard finished with five saves, her second-highest total of the season.
- The Bulldogs appeared to strike early on a goal by Assa Kante in the 10th minute, set up by assists from Denigan and senior midfielder Millie Filson. Following video review, the goal was disallowed due to an offside call. Georgia almost scored in the final seconds as Staude’s long drive hit off the cross bar.
- Kentucky broke the stalemate in the 54th minute as Catherine Rapp snuck past the Georgia back line for the score. The Wildcats led for over 20 minutes until Denigan knocked in a top shelf goal for the equalizer in the 75th minute, her 11th goal of the season. The Bulldogs and Wildcats would play for 35 additional minutes but would finish in a 1-1 draw.
