Walton County Public Works Update

Walton County – 11/03/25 – Walton County Public Works in-house crews have been hard at work on improving the community’s infrastructure. Here are the latest progress and highlights from these important efforts. Remember, all activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and existing the roadway.

CROWDER CHAPEL OVERLAY PROJECT

Project Improvements:

• The overlay operation will commence on Crowder Chapel Road where the pavement ends and will proceed for approximately 0.48 miles, terminating at Hinote Road

• Pavement Striping

Current Status:

• Under Construction

Traffic Impacts:

Intermittent shoulder and lane closures are anticipated throughout the duration of the project.

MOSSY HEAD MAIN STREET RESURFACING PROJECT

Project Improvements:

• Resurfacing will begin at the intersection of U.S. Hwy 90 and East Mossy Head Main Street and continue through to the Intersection of West Mossy Head Main Street and Mossy Head 2nd Street. From there, resurfacing will proceed along West Mossy Head Main Street, extending south to the railroad tracks leading into Eglin Air Force Base.

• Clipping the shoulder with Grader in preparation for paving

• Pavement Striping

Current Status:

• Under Construction (Striping)

Traffic Impacts:

Intermittent shoulder and lane closures are anticipated throughout the duration of the project.

STEWART CIRCLE OVERLAY PROJECT

Project Improvements:

• The overlay operation will commence on Stewart Circle at the intersection with East Mossy Head Main Street and proceed for 0.14 miles, terminating at the railroad crossing on East Mossy Head Main Street.

• Pavement Striping

Current Status:

• Under Construction (Striping)

Traffic Impacts:

Intermittent shoulder and lane closures are anticipated throughout the duration of the project.

BEAVER DAM PARK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

Project Improvements:

• Installation of a stormwater retention pond on a 0.15-acre site with sod (complete)

• Parking lot with 16 standard parking spaces and 2 designated handicap accessible spaces

• Stormwater inlet with 104-foot pipe to discharge collected stormwater to retention pond (complete)

Current Status:

• Under Construction (parking lot)

General Information:

• This project was designed by Walton County Engineering Department

• This project is funded through the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP).

FOREST SHORE DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS

Project Improvements:

• Drainage system along Forest Shore Road

• Construction of a new sidewalk

• Installation of new sod in right-of-way

Current Status:

• Under Construction

General Information:

• This project was designed by Kimley-Horn

• This project is funded through the South Walton Infrastructure Funds and $400,000 from the Sidewalk Funds

GEORGE MONTGOMERY ROAD RESURFACING PROJECT

Project Improvements:

• Paving 1.45 miles section of George Montgomery Road, extending from the end of asphalt to County Highway 183

• Drainage Improvements

• Stabilization

• Pavement Striping

Current Status:

• Under Construction (prep for paving)

Traffic Impacts:

Intermittent shoulder and lane closures are anticipated throughout the duration of the project.

ADDITIONAL PROJECTS

• New Paxton Medical Facility Parking Lot

• New LSV Lane along CR 30A and Deer Lake

• Mossy Head Community Center Parking Lot/Basketball Court-striping
