Diving and Distance Lead on First Night of Florida Meet

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Strong performances from junior diver Matthew Bray and the young distance group highlighted the first night of competition for the University of Georgia swimming and diving teams against Florida at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

  • Freshmen Sean Green and Kennedi Dobson continued the terrific starts to their Georgia careers with second place finishes in the 1,000y freestyle. Green posted a new personal-best time of 8:51.56, becoming the seventh-fastest performer in program history. Dobson notched a time of 9:31.20, the 10th-fastest time in program history. Fellow freshman Clark Neace also set a new PB as she placed third with a mark of 9:40.03, dropping nine seconds from her previous top time.
  • On the springboards, Bray turned in a pair of solid outings, beginning with a third-place Zone cut of 320.18 on 1-meter. He followed it up with another third-place Zone cut of 365.78 on 3-meter.
  • Sophomore Elliot Woodburn earned the lone Bulldog win of the evening in the men’s 50y breaststroke with a time of 24.00.
  • In other results, senior Ieva Maluka finished second in the 50y butterfly with a time of 24.53, while junior Drew Hitchcock touched third in the men’s event at 21.09. Senior Ruard van Renen placed second in the 50y backstroke with a time of 21.30.
  • Through one night of competition, No. 4/6 Florida leads both the men’s and women’s meets with scores of 93-36 (men) and 99-25 (women).
