Florida defeats Ole Miss, Advances to East Lake Cup Finals vs. Virginia
ATLANTA – The No. 10 Florida men’s golf team defeated the No. 12 Ole Miss Rebels 3-2 to advance to the East Lake Cup Finals vs. the No. 1 Virginia Cavaliers tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. with live coverage on Golf Channel starting at 11 a.m.
Florida improves to 3-0 all-time in match play vs. the Rebels and are now 21-11-1 in match play under head coach J.C. Deacon. The win was also the Gators first ever at the East Lake Cup.
Tomorrow’s final will serve as a rematch of last year’s NCAA Championship Semifinals where UVA won 3-0 over UF. The two also faced off the 2023 NCAA Championship Quarterfinals, which featured a Florida 3-2 win en route to the program’s fifth National Championship. The two schools are 1-1 in match all-time.
It came down to the final match on the board and the 18th hole in Jack Turner vs. Michale La Sasso, the 2025 NCAA Individual National Champion. Turner’s 2Up lead fell to one after he bogeyed the 14th as the match nearly found its self squared, but a chip-in birdie from Turner on the par-3 15th kept maintained his advantage. After missing a par putt to win the match on the 17th, Turner secured the match-clinching point for a 2Up victory with a birdie on the 18th, his second in the last four holes.
Turner once again took down another well accomplished competitor. Last season in the SEC Championship Semifinals vs. the reigning SEC and National Champion Auburn Tigers, he was paired up with Jackson Koivun, who was the back-to-back SEC Individual Champion after coming off one of the most decorated freshman campaigns and ranked the No. 1 ranked amateur in the world.
Florida gained two points quickly from Parker Bell (5&3) and Luke Poulter (6&4). Playing in the lead off match, Poulter controlled the match from the start and only lost one hole in his 14 played. He made seven birdies and just one bogey while improving to 6-2 in collegiate match play.
After a team-best T2 finish in stroke play, Bell continued his stellar play. The senior shot a bogey-free 6-under and only dropped two holes in his match. He started off winning four of the first six holes, including the first three consecutive.
The Ole Miss Rebels squared the match 2-2 with back-to-back victories from Cohen Trolio (3&2) and Cameron Tankersley (5&4).
