Fullbrook And Russell Gain Wins; FSU Falls to Oregon At East Lake Cup
Fullbrook defeated Oregon’s Shyla Singh by a 4&3 margin.
Fullbrook took control of her match with a win on the eighth hole of the round. She was then victorious on four of the final eight holes of the round to keep the momentum and complete her victory after only 15 holes of the scheduled 18 hole match had been played. Fullbrook won the par four 13th hole with a birdie to take a commanding four-hole lead. The two competitors then tied the 14th and 15th holes giving the Seminoles’ leader a four-hole advantage with only three holes to play.
Fullbrook’s victory over Singh was the third match play victory of her Florida State career.
Russell defeated Oregon’s Tong An by a 3&2 score for Florida State’s second point.
Russell gained the momentum in her win over An early in the match as she took the lead on the sixth hole of the round. She maintained control and led the match over the final 11 holes of the match. Russell increased her lead to as many as five holes as the pair finished hole No. 11. She closed out her win as the competitors tied the 16th hole leaving the Seminole second-year player with a three-stroke advantage with just two holes to play.
The match play win for Russell came in her first match play event as a Seminole.
