Crimson Tide in the NFL Spotlight: Week 7
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The National Football League concluded Week 7 of the regular season Monday evening. Below is a look at how former Alabama players performed on the gridiron last week.
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs put up yet another impressive stat line on Monday Night Football, as his Detroit Lions defeated the Tampa Buccaneers 24-9 at home. Gibbs turned 17 carries into 136 yards and two rushing touchdowns while adding three catches for 82 yards. Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs also shined on the ground, as the veteran tallied 13 carries for 55 yards with a pair of scores.
The Crimson Tide had four players face off against each other to open the Sunday afternoon slate, as the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith took on Johnathan Allen and Will Reichard of the Minnesota Vikings. Hurts completed 19-of-23 passes for a season-high 326 yards with three touchdowns through the air. Smith was responsible for half of those yards, bringing in nine receptions for a career-high 183 yards and one touchdown in Philly’s 28-22 win. On the opposing side, Allen tallied four tackles, including a half sack, to go with a quarterback hurry, while Reichard was responsible for 16 of the Vikings’ 22 points, connecting on one PAT and all five field goal attempts highlighted by a 59-yarder.
On the other side of the ball, Alabama had a trio of defensive backs who stood out over the weekend, led by Jordan Battle of the Bengals. Battle recorded five tackles, a pass deflection and his third interception of the season to lead the Cincinnati defense. Kool-Aid McKinstry had another impressive week for the New Orleans Saints, with the cornerback making five tackles, including one for loss, and one pass deflection. Ending the week on Monday Night Football was Seattle Seahawks’ cornerback Josh Jobe, who also picked up five tackles along with two pass deflections and a quarterback hurry.
Will Anderson Jr. and Quinnen Williams also produced impressive performances on the defensive side of the ball. Houston Texans’ linebacker Anderson Jr. had one of the best games of his young career, tallying five tackles, including a tackle for loss and sack, one quarterback hurry, a forced fumble and fumble recovery that led to the first touchdown of his young career. Williams finished his afternoon in London with the New York Jets by posting a season-high eight tackles, including one stop for loss.
