Football’s Jefferson Named Bednarik Player of the Week
PHILADELPHIA – Alabama’s Justin Jefferson was named the Chuck Bednarik Player of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the Maxwell Football Club.
Jefferson picked up his second weekly honor following the Tide’s 30-14 win over then-No. 16/17 Vanderbilt on Oct. 4, as the redshirt senior was previously named the Southeastern Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Bednarik Player of the Week
Justin Jefferson
- Played a key role on an Alabama defensive unit that limited Vanderbilt to 333 yards of offense and only 14 points, well below their season averages of 494.4 ypg and 49.0 ppg, respectively
- Paced the Alabama defense with a career-best 14 total tackles
- Managed a team-best nine solo stops and five assisted tackles, more than tripling the next-closest tackler on the team
- Also contributed one sack (-11 yards) and a forced fumble on the afternoon
- His sack came on 1st-and-10 of Vandy’s final drive, putting the Commodores behind the sticks on the way to an eventual turnover on downs, halting any potential comeback
- Jefferson’s forced fumble on Diego Pavia came at the UA 13 as Vanderbilt was threatening to take a two-score lead early in the first quarter
- The turnover led to an eventual touchdown on the Tide’s very next drive
