Over 3,000 UF student-athletes have volunteered at the Brandon Lang Memorial Sports Camp Climb for Cancer event.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – More than 50 University of Florida student-athletes spent their Sunday volunteering at the 2025 Brandon Lang Memorial Sports Camp Climb for Cancer.

Since 2006, Florida student-athletes have been heavily involved in the Climb for Cancer sports camp event. Climb for Cancer is a non-profit organization that sponsors children who have fought or are fighting cancer and gives them the opportunity to participate in a sports clinic.

“Climb for Cancer is a truly special event that brings out the very best in our local community and student-athletes,” said Pierre Banks, Assistant Director of Community Development. “The families we see at Climb for Cancer are battling something so much bigger than a scoreboard. Through this annual event, our goal is to help inspire and bring a smile to the faces of these families, while simultaneously leaving a lasting impact on the many UF athletes involved.”

On Sunday, over 30 children and their families had the chance to meet various UF student-athletes across a multitude of sports and use the University Athletic Association’s facilities through the partnership formed with the Gators Experience and other UAA departments. Student-athletes and participants spent the day playing sports and developing skills related to basketball, soccer, football, volleyball, dance drills and more.

Dating back to Climb for Cancer’s onset in 2006, over 3,000 Gators have been able to connect with and uplift members of the local Gainesville community.
