Tournament Record 13-under gives Gators Seven Shot Advantage, Kress Shares Lead
All five Gators shot par or better with four sitting T11 or better through two rounds at the Fighting Illini Collegiate.
All five Florida golfers shot even-par or better in the second set of 18-holes for the best round in the field by 10 strokes. The round of 267 (-13) set a new tournament record as the previous was 269 by North Carolina in 2023.The Orange and Blue tee off the final round tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. and look to win the event for the first time since 2010.
After a double-bogey to begin the round, Matthew Kress finished bogey-free for a 67 (-3) with five birdies and shares the individual lead with Gaven Lane (Oklahoma State) at 5-under. Across his 36-holes, the senior has made 26 pars, eight birdies and just two bogeys. He also leads the field in par-4 scoring with an average of 3.79. Kress will play for his second collegiate win and aims to become first Gator to win the tournament.
UF moved into the lead ahead of the reigning National Champion Oklahoma State Cowboys by two shots behind Luke Poulter’s four consecutive birdies to start the back nine. He added another on the 15th to produce a bogey-free 5-under back nine en route to a career-low 66 (-4). Poulter is 3-under through two rounds and tied for 5th.
Senior Parker Bell turned in the first counting score for Florida with a 66 (-4) that only featured one bogey coming on the 17th. He climbed 30 spots in day two to sit T11 and 1-under.
Posting back-to-back rounds of par or better was junior Jack Turner with 68 (-2). He started off the day at Olympia Fields with three birdies in his first five holes. He is 2-under and tied for 8th.
Today’s non-counting score was an even-par 70 from sophomore Zack Swanwick, who is tied for 35th.
