Two Golfers Among Top 10 to Lead No. 11 Men’s Golf Through 36 Holes Played at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational

CHICAGO – Two golfers are among the top 10 individuals to lead the No. 11 Alabama men’s golf team after two rounds played at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. The Crimson Tide finished Saturday’s second round at 7-over par 287 and will enter the final 18 holes in eighth overall with a 36-hole total of 10-over par 570 (283-287). 

Luke Powell and Jonathan Griz are tied for 10th at 1-under par totals and are two of just 17 golfers in the 81-man field to sit below par through 36 holes played.

Individual Highlights

  • Jonathan Griz paced the Crimson Tide with a 1-under par 69 on Saturday and is at 1-under par 139 (70-69) entering the final round of action
  • Luke Powell finished at 1-over 71 in round two and matched Griz with a 1-under 139 (68-71) through 36 holes played
  • Griz ranks second in the field on par 5 holes (-3, 4.25) while Powell is tied for the lead in total pars (30)
  • William Jennings (73-73) and Connor Brown (72-74) are tied for 52nd overall with matching score of 6-over par 146, while Jack Mitchell (t80th) rounded out the UA golfers with a 158 (80-78)

Team Highlights

  • No. 10 Florida (-11) holds the clubhouse lead by seven shots over No. 19 Texas Tech (-4) 
  • No. 4 Oklahoma State (-1) is in third and the only other team at par or better, with No. 12 Illinois (+2) and No. 15 Florida State (+3) rounding out the top five teams, respectively
