SERIES HISTORY VS. NORTH CAROLINA
Florida State is 14-31-6 all-time against North Carolina, including 5-10-0 at home, 2-10-5 on the road and 7-11-1 at a neutral site. The two teams have met 22 times in the postseason, 20 times at the ACC Championship and twice at the College Cup, including the 2018 championship game where the Seminoles earned a 1-0 win for their second of four NCAA titles. FSU’s 14 victories are the most of any program in the country against UNC. Florida State has 20 combined wins (14) and draws (6) against the Tar Heels, also the most in the country and almost double the only other two teams with double-digit combined wins and draws, Duke (6 wins, 5 draws) and Notre Dame (7 wins, 4 draws), both with 11.
In the all-time series that began in 1995, FSU is 12-7-4 since a 1-0, double-overtime win in the 2011 ACC Championship when the team won its first of 11 conference tournament titles. The two teams have played every year since 1995, with multiple meetings in 19 of the 30 seasons leading into 2025. That includes three matchups in 2018, with a 3-2 win in the ACC Championships before the national championship victory. The other College Cup matchup was in the 2022 semifinals, a 3-2 UNC win.
FSU is unbeaten in four of the last five meetings and has won two in a row, both in 2024, with a 4-2 victory in Tallahassee and 3-2 triumph in the ACC title game. In the 2024 regular-season meeting on October 25, Dudley and Solai Washington gave the 17th-ranked home side a 2-0 lead by the 23rd minute, but the fourth-ranked visitors answered to tie it with goals in the 34th and 36th minutes. In the second half, Washington and Dudley secured braces, with Washington’s game-winner coming in the 52nd minute and Dudley’s insurance score in the 67th. FSU out-shot UNC 26-11 and Todd made three saves. In the 2024 ACC championship game on November 10, No. 6-ranked Florida State rallied twice, as Taylor Suarez tied the game at 1-1 in the 34th minute, three minutes after No. 8-ranked North Carolina opened the scoring. The Tar Heels regained the lead less than 10 minutes later, but Taylor Huff tied it in the 63rd minute and Hudson won it in the 67th to give the Seminoles their 11th ACC tournament crown and fifth in a row.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina is 7-2-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in ACC play. The Tar Heels are 5-0-0 at home and 2-2-0 on the road. UNC has won six in a row after starting the season 1-2-0. LAST TIME OUT: ROADTRIP BEGINS WITH SHUTOUT WIN
Florida State began its three-game ACC roadtrip with a 4-0 victory at Syracuse on Sunday afternoon. For the second consecutive game, FSU halted an unbeaten streak of at least six games by its opponent, as the Orange saw their seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end and were shut out for just the third time in 2025.
Hudson scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season and her fifth in the last four games, a score that made it 3-0 in the 61st minute.
