Setter Taylor Parks commanded Florida’s offense to a .305 clip en route to her first double-double of the season with 35 assists and 10 digs.

How It Happened

Set 1

  • In an opening set that had 13 ties and four lead changes, the Gators started down 5-3 before settling in and tying it up at six. Ohio State responded with three-straight to regain a 9-6 advantage before back-to-back kills from Auguste and Byrd inched Florida back within one. Another kill from Auguste sent the sophomore to the service line where she dropped an ace to make it 10 all, as Florida went into the media timeout with a 15-13 advantage. Following the break, the Buckeyes scored two straight to notch it back up at 16 before a sideout from Auguste sent Canaan to the service line, where the senior had an ace to push UF ahead 18-16. Service errors from Florida allowed Ohio State to keep momentum and take a 20-19 lead to force Coach Theis to call a timeout. Out of the huddle, a kill from Byrd ended the 3-0 Buckeye scoring run, but back-to-back OSU points gave the home team a 22-20 advantage before kills from Byrd and Madkin tied it back up at 22’s and forced Ohio State to call a timeout to slow the Gators momentum. Florida rallied back with its versatile offense to come away with a 25-23 win.

An ace from Vogel allowed for a 12-10 Florida lead before Hutson dropped another ace to push the lead to 15-13. Florida extended its lead to 20-17, but back-to-back attack errors kept the door open for the Buckeyes to tie it back up at 20. With the race to 25 inching close, a kill from Rothe sent Vogel to the service line where the redshirt freshman served out the rest of set two, as back-to-back kills from Madkin clinched the 25-20 second-set win.

Hear from Head Coach Ryan Theis:
“Really fun environment on the road. We started slow and missed defensive assignments and a few opportunities to score points, but as the match went on we got way better at recognition and defensive team effort. I really liked the way we defended in the second and third sets.”

Alec Rothe on being back in her home state and with her family and friends coming out to support…

“It’s so surreal honestly, this is my village. These are the people that raised me and it makes me so emotional thinking about how many were here for me. I am so grateful we got to come and play in Ohio.”
