Georgia Leads APSU 14-3 at the Half
Halftime Summary Of The Offense:
Georgia won the toss, took the football and gained 28 yards on four plays before the drive ended on a fumble.
The second drive resulted in a TD and covered 80 yards in 10 plays over 5:16. It was capped by the first career TD by redshirt freshman Chauncey Bowens (2-yard rush). At the half, Bowens had 27 yards on seven carries.
Redshirt junior QB Gunner Stockton completed his first 10 passes. In the first half, he was 17-for-21 for 139 yards with no TDs. He had three rushes for 10 yards.
The leading rusher was sophomore Dwight Phillips, Jr. with 32 yards on just two carries. Sophomore Nate Frazier (5 att. 24 yards, 1 TD) had a two-yard TD run (his first this season) as the Bulldogs finished a nine play, 56-yard drive for a 14-0 lead with 13:50 left in the first half.
At the half, senior RB Cash Jones had a team-high 32 yards receiving on three catches while freshman wideout Talyn Taylor had two for 28 yards.
Defensive Review At The Half:
The Govs hit a 44-yard field goal (Carson Smith) with 9:08 left in the first half to cut it to 14-3.
The first drive for AP resulted in a three-and-out after gaining seven yards. The Govs got the ball after a fumble. In the first quarter, AP had six total yards on six plays.
Junior CJ Allen led the team in tackles with five including 1.5 TFL and his first sack of the year.
Sophomore Chris Cole notched his first career sack today while Ellis Robinson IV snagged his first career interception at the AP39.
Cheking In On Special Teams:
All-America punter Brett Thorson made his 2025 debut. At the half, he had two punts for a 39.5 average with no returns. His second punt was caught by senior Cash Jones at the AP 4 with 3:08 left in the first half. Last week in the opener against Marshall, Drew Miller handled the punting as Thorson still was recovering from knee surgery that ended his 2024 season.
Junior Zachariah Branch had one punt returns for nine yards.
Captains, Coin Toss And For Starters:
Georgia won the toss and elected to receive. The first drive ended with a Nate Frazier fumble at the AP 47. It did not lead to any points. Prior to today, the last time Georgia won the toss and took the football was against Ball State in 2023. That drive ended with a missed field goal.
Sophomore Jahzare Jackson (RT) and redshirt freshman Michael Uini ( RG) made their first career start while senior Daylen Everette RCB) returned to his starting spot after missing the opener due to injury. Everette had started 28 straight games before missing last week.
With 10 minutes remaining in halftime, a weather warning was issued as lightning was detected within eight miles of the stadium.
