Shelton Moves on to Round Three of the US Open and Hidalgo Gets First Round Matchup for Doubles

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Ben Shelton and Diego Hidalgo are both competing in the final Grand Slam of the year. In the US Open, Shelton will move into the third round of the singles tournament while Hidalgo’s run is just beginning.

Shelton heads into the Round of 32 in the US Open after winning in straight sets against Ignacio Buse in the first round (6-3, 6-2, 6-4) and Pablo Carreno Busta in the second round (6-4, 6-2, 6-4). In these two rounds Shelton relied less on his normal monster serves and focused more on the types of shots he took and the strategy behind his game. This will be Shelton’s ninth appearance in a third round for a Grand Slam event in his career.

In the Round of 32, Shelton will face off against Adrian Mannarino who he played in his recent run at the ATP Masters 1000 Canada tournament in the Round of 64. This matchup will be Shelton and Mannarino’s fourth meeting with Mannarino leading in 2-1 in wins. Their match up will take place Friday, August 29 after 1:30 p.m.

Diego Hidalgo

Hidalgo who is now ranked No. 78 by the ATP in doubles has been paired with Arjun Kadhe who is ranks No. 119 in doubles. The pair will face off against Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic who are both tied of No. 3 in doubles. The teams will face off in the Round of 64 on Friday, August 29 but no time has been set for the match.
