SAN DIEGO, Calif. – With their stellar performances in several UTR tournaments this summer, senior Tanapatt Nirundorn and recent Gator grad JanMagnus Johnson have qualified to compete in the first ever UTR Sports Summer Championships taking place over the holiday weekend.

The tournament will run from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 in San Diego, Calif. and will offer a cash prize to the winner of the championships. Each player is guaranteed to play five matches, and the athlete with the most wins will not only collect some money but also boost their Universal Tennis Ranking (UTR) ranking.

Nirundorn played in six UTR PTT tournaments this summer, gaining a record of 23-8 in the six tournaments he participated in. Nirundorn defeated Johnson in the finals of the Denver, Colo. tournament coming first in the tournament with Johnson being the runner-up. Nirundorn also placed second in the UTR tournament held in Tuscaloosa, Ala. and third in the Winston-Salem, N.C. and Jacksonville, Fla. tournaments.

After earning a graduate degree from the University of Florida in the Spring, Johnson continued developing his skills through the different tournaments he competed in throughout the summer, many of which were UTR tournaments. Johnson faced off against several different athletes from around the globe, including three of his former teammates, junior Henry Jefferson, senior Nirundorn and fellow Gator graduate Bradley Paliska. Johnson went 27-4 across the six tournaments he played in.

Both Nirundorn and Johnson’s matches can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video. Johnson’s first match will take place against Elias Shokry at 1 p.m. EST and Nirundorn’s first match will be against Calvin Baierl at 3 p.m. EST on Aug. 29, 2025.
