A Fort Walton Beach man is charged with murder following a shooting which resulted from an argument Wednesday outside Choctaw Village on Gibson Street near Fort Walton Beach.

The 35-year old victim, no known address, died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies were in the area on an unrelated call around 6 p.m. when they heard a gunshot and ran towards the sound, finding the victim bleeding in the courtyard. They also spotted Timothy Acoff running away with a gun, challenged him, and took him into custody for questioning.

Acoff was initially arrested on possession of drug charges and transported to the Okaloosa County Jail while the shooting investigation continued.

The investigation led to a warrant for second degree murder.
