Georgia Tourist Charged in Destin Shooting Incident

A Georgia tourist was arrested after shooting a man in the leg August 17th in Destin.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has charged 42-year old Crissy Wilburn of Stone Mountain with domestic violence related aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and use of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol. The shooting happened around 9 p.m. while the pair was loading their car to leave 60 Crystal Beach Drive. They had reportedly been arguing that day over photos found on the victim’s phone.
Wilburn and the victim gave conflicting stories on what happened, with the victim claiming it was an accident.
Wilburn, who was sitting in the passenger seat, initially told deputies she grabbed the firearm to put in on the floorboard when it went off and struck the victim, who was standing outside to her right. She then said the victim grabbed the gun and it went off. She also claimed she did not know how it got pointed at the victim and that it was holstered the entire time. Deputies say Wilburn had a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath, glassy eyes and slurred speech and refused to provide a breath sample after her arrest.
Due to their inconsistent statements, inability to explain what happened, and the victim’s defensive wounds on his hand, Wilburn was taken into custody and transported to the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview.
