Florida soccer opened 2025 exhibition action Sunday with a 1-0 win over Florida Atlantic at Dizney Stadium.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida soccer opened 2025 exhibition action Sunday evening with a 1-0 win over Florida Atlantic at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The exhibition was played as three 30-minute periods.

This was the first Gator athletic event of the 2025-26 season. Preseason training started for Florida soccer on Tuesday.

Sophomore Ryleigh Acosta scored the opening goal in the second period, getting the touch at the far post off a deep cross from Tatum O’Coyne.

“Lauren (McCloskey) played Tatum a through ball. Tatum took the player on and then crossed it,” Acosta said. “I was hauling to get back there and I got to it at the right time to finish it in the goal. It was a really good ball by Tatum.”

Many of the Gators’ 2025 roster saw a good amount of action Sunday.

“To get the result was important for us. We played a couple of different systems and formations. We had almost every available field player play big minutes so that was really exciting to see people jumping in and playing different positions,” Florida Head Coach Samantha Bohon said. “We’re really young. We lost nine starters from last season, but it was really cool to see these players step up to the moment.”

“We have some really fun, new young talent – some proper like soccer players that help us possess and build the way we want to play. It’s really encouraging,” Bohon continued. “It’s the first week but we’ve looked back on this week and think it’s been unbelievably productive.”
