Olsen Returns to Men’s Basketball Staff
Florida men’s basketball has brought Kevin Olsen on staff as director of basketball strategy and analytics. Olsen, UF’s video coordinator in 2022-23, returns to Gainesville after two seasons as assistant coach at his alma mater, University of San Francisco. The position on Florida’s staff opened following the elevation of Jonathan Safir to assistant coach this offseason.
From 2023-25 as an assistant coach at San Francisco, Olsen helped the Dons to a 48-21 record during that time with two NIT appearances. The 2024-25 campaign included a win vs. Saint Mary’s and a road victory at Oregon State, along with a WCC Tournament win vs. Washington State and an NIT victory against Utah Valley. In 2023-24, USF had wins vs. Big Ten and Big East opponents, defeating both Minnesota and DePaul.
The Villa Park, Calif., native originally worked on Todd Golden‘s initial UF staff as video coordinator in 2022-23. The Gators scored a pair of top-25 wins and a postseason berth in Olsen’s first season at UF. The 2022-23 campaign also included All-SEC honors for Colin Castleton and SEC All-Freshman recognition for Riley Kugel.
Prior to UF, Olsen spent the previous three seasons on staff at the University of San Francisco, where he served first as head student manager for the Dons and later as a graduate assistant on Golden’s staff. He graduated from San Francisco with a degree in sociology in 2021.
Before his time at San Francisco, Olsen attended Irvine Valley College, where he was a team captain on the men’s basketball team. He also coached with West Coast Elite Basketball while attending Irvine Valley.
Florida tips off its 2025-26 campaign on Monday, Nov. 3, meeting Arizona in Las Vegas as part of the Hall of Fame Series.
