TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State baseball junior shortstop Alex Lodise was selected in the second round of the 2025 MLB Draft with the 60th overall pick by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday evening.

With Lodise’s second round pick, the Seminoles have two players drafted in the first two rounds for the seventh time in team history, along with 1991, 1992, 1995, 2001, 2004 and 2024. Earlier on Sunday, junior left-handed starter Jamie Arnold was the 11th overall pick by the Athletics.

Lodise is the 300th draft pick in Florida State history since the first selection of outfielder Jim Lyttle, who was the 10th overall pick in 1966 by the New York Yankees.

A native of St. Augustine, Florida, Lodise is FSU’s first shortstop drafted since Mike Salvatore in the ninth round in 2019 and the highest since Stephen Drew was the No. 15 overall pick in 2004.

Lodise is the 15th FSU player selected by the Atlanta Braves and the first since Sean Gilmartin in the first round (28th overall) in 2011. Lodise is the first shortstop and second infielder, along with second baseman Edwin Alicea in the ninth round in 1988. Of the 15 overall picks by the Braves, Lodise is the fifth to be taken in the first three rounds.

The 2025 Dick Howser Trophy winner as the nation’s top amateur player, Lodise was a consensus All-American in a breakout junior season. He was named the ACC Player of the Year, the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and the NCBWA District 3 Player of the Year and also was recognized on the Southeast All-Region First Team by the ABCA. A Golden Spikes Award and Brooks Wallace Award finalist, Lodise was named the midseason National Player of the Year and the country’s No. 1-ranked shortstop late in the season. He also was a Freshman All-American and First Team All-ASUN in 2023 at North Florida.

One of the nation’s most prolific hitters and best defenders in 2025, Lodise ranked No. 9 in the country in hits (95), No. 12 in hits per game (1.64), No 13 in total bases (170) and No. 23 in batting average (.394). Lodise was second in the ACC in RBI per game (1.17), third in RBI (68), fourth in slugging percentage (.705) and fifth in triples (3). He hit 17 home runs, had 18 doubles, scored 62 runs with 27 walks and was a perfect 6-of-6 in stolen base attempts. With a .977 fielding percentage, Lodise was part of 34 double plays and committed just five errors in 216 total fielding chances.

While starting all 58 of FSU’s games at shortstop, Lodise had at least one hit in 48 of those 58 games played, with 31 multi-hit games. He notched three or more hits in 13 games, which is more than the number of times he was held hitless (10) and almost as many games as he had just one hit (17). Additionally, Lodise is believed to be the first player in major college or professional baseball history to complete the cycle with a walk-off grand slam. The historic performance to beat rival Florida in his hometown of Jacksonville on March 25 was one of seven game-winning hits for Lodise in 2025.

In his two-year Florida State career, Lodise started all 120 games he appeared in and hit .341 with 156 hits in 458 at-bats. He hit 26 home runs with 32 doubles and notched 112 RBI and scored 112 runs with a .594 slugging percentage and a .415 on-base percentage. Lodise logged 46 walks and was 12-of-13 in stolen base attempts.

Lodise helped lead Florida State to its first College World Series berth in five years in 2024 and a Super Regional appearance and FSU’s first ACC runner-up finish in 11 years in 2025.

The 2025 MLB Draft continues with the remainder of the first three rounds, 105 total picks, on Sunday night on MLB Network and MLB.com. Rounds 4-20 will be held on Monday, July 14, beginning at 11:30 a.m. on MLB.com.

MLB teams have until Monday, July 28, at 5 p.m. ET, to agree to deals with players they draft out of four-year colleges and high schools.
