Alabama Duo Reaches Podium on Second Day of NCAA Championships
EUGENE, Ore. – Two Alabama track and field student-athletes achieved First Team All-America recognition on the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Distance runner Brenda Tuwei clocked a PR-setting, eighth-place finish in the women’s 10,000m (32:20.14) moments before women’s shot putter Mye’Joi Williams finished seventh behind a last-attempt, 17.73-meter (58-2) throw in the event final.
On the track, reigning steeplechase national champion Doris Lemngole (9:26.44) clocked the fastest time of the entire semifinal by over 10 seconds, as the West Pokot County, Kenya, native glided her way to Saturday’s event final.
Alabama’s Katelyn Adel will begin the women’s heptathlon Friday (1:45 p.m. CT), before the Tide trio of Christopher Crawford, Trevor Gunzell and Christopher Young get going in the men’s discus (4:15 p.m.).
Friday will also feature two track event finals for the Crimson Tide, as the 2025 Southeastern Conference champion and 2024 Paris Olympic finalist competes in both. Samuel Ogazi will compete in the 400-meter race (8:02 p.m.) before returning to the track later in the evening as a member of UA’s 4×400-meter relay squad (9:21 p.m.).
The Crimson Tide heads into the third day with the UA women tied for 26th place with three points.
