The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has charged a teacher following an investigation into a sexual relationship with a student that occurred two decades ago.

58-year old Timothy John Sexton, a teacher at Crestview High School and former teacher at Pryor Middle School, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student between April 2001 and July 2005. OCSO Investigators say the victim was 14 when the relationship started and continued until she was 17.

Sexton was taken into custody this morning by members of the OCSO and the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force at his home on Jeff Drive in Crestview. Sexton is charged with sexual battery by a person in a custodial authority and sexual battery with a victim between 12-18 years of age.

The investigation began after a FortifyFL tip was received by the OCSO and Okaloosa County School District in late March 2025. Through interviews with the victim and witnesses, investigators obtained enough evidence for probable cause to arrest Sexton.

“There is no expiration date on seeking justice for victims,” said Sheriff Eric Aden. “This arrest underscores our unwavering commitment to pursuing the truth, no matter how much time has passed. We are proud of the work done by our investigators and encourage anyone who has been a victim to come forward.”

Okaloosa County School District Media Statement – Arrest of an Okaloosa School District Teacher:

Today, the Okaloosa County School District was notified of the arrest of a Crestview High School employee who has been on administrative leave following the District’s receipt of a report via FortifyFL. The FortifyFL report alleged inappropriate conduct involving a former student and the employee that reportedly occurred over 20 years ago while the teacher was employed at another school.

Upon receiving the report, the District immediately notified the Florida Department of Children and Families and the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO). As a result of the OCSO investigation, an arrest was made today. In accordance with School Board policy, the employee will be recommended for suspension without pay pending the outcome of the criminal court proceedings.

“Our teachers are held to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity when it comes to the safety and well-being of our students,” said Superintendent Marcus Chambers. “The overwhelming majority of our employees come to work each day to make a positive impact in the lives of our students and consistently meet and exceed these expectations. However, when an individual fails to uphold those standards, it deeply affects our entire school community. The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. Despite the significant time that has passed, if the allegations against this employee are substantiated, we will respond swiftly and appropriately. This is a zero-tolerance issue.”
