Walton County – June 6, 2025 – Walton County Public Works is pleased to announce significant progress on several ongoing infrastructure projects throughout the county. Public Works aims to foster transparency and engagement, ensuring that residents are aware of the efforts being made to improve county infrastructure. We appreciate the public’s patience as we complete these vital projects.
CR 883 Striping Project at Elementary School
Crews are mobilizing in Freeport to initiate a striping project along CR 883 in front of Freeport Elementary School. The project involves the removal of the existing crosswalk and the installation of a new crosswalk at the north end of the school zone. In addition to the crosswalk improvements, the project will also involve adjustments to the alignment of the turn lanes. These enhancements should provide a smoother transition for drivers, improving traffic flow and safety in the area.
Karli Court Dirt-to-Pave Project
Roadbed preparation is in progress on Karli Court as part of the dirt-to-pave initiative, paving the way for a smoother and more durable road surface.
Choctaw Beach Community Center Basketball Court
Crews are set to mobilize at the Choctaw Beach Community Center this week to begin upgrades to the basketball court. The project involves overlaying the court to enhance its usability and safety. Following the work at the community center, crews will shift focus to address necessary maintenance on the dam at Lake Sharon, where asphalt patching will take place.
South Walton Bark Park Improvements
South Walton Bark Park is currently undergoing major renovations, which include bringing in dirt to elevate the property, redirecting drainage, and installing new sidewalks and fencing.
Forest Shore Road Drainage Improvements
Work continues to enhance the drainage system along Forest Shore Road. These improvements are designed to mitigate flooding and improve overall water management in the area.
S. Norwood Road Sidewalk
The new sidewalk along S. Norwood Road has been successfully completed, enhancing safety and accessibility for pedestrians in the area. Crews are currently focused on finalizing the installation of railings on the south end of the project to ensure an added level of safety for users.
