CARLSBAD, Calif. – The No. 11 Florida State men’s golf team opened the 2025 NCAA Championship Finals by finishing the opening round of stroke play in second place at the Omni La Costa North Course on Friday.
Despite battling through windy conditions to start the round on the 10th hole, the Seminoles kept their poise and finished the day 3-under, 285. FSU is tied for second with No. 7 Florida and No. 3 Texas, while No. 8 Oklahoma leads at 8-under, 277. Florida State was one of seven teams to finish the opening round under par.
Making his NCAA Finals debut, Carson Brewer led the Noles in the opening round, shooting 3-under, 69. Brewer turned in his lowest score of the postseason, and is tied for 12th place. He finished the day carding four birdies, including a chip-in on hole 12. Brewer is three shots back from the leader at 6-under, 66.
Luke Clanton also added four birdies, starting the tournament 2-under, 70. Clanton is tied for 16th place.
Jack Bigham and Gray Albright finished 1-over, 73, contributing three birdies each.
Tyler Weaver finished strong with a pair of birdies on the 15th and 17th to climb to 2-over, 74.
Florida State will stay paired with Florida and No. 9 Virginia on Saturday, teeing off at 10:25 ET.
