Gators Welcome Transfers Fland, Brown

Last Updated: May 22, 2025By

Florida men’s basketball coach Todd Golden discussed transfer guards AJ Brown and Boogie Fland on Thursday for the first time.

Brown, an Orlando native who signed in late April, comes to UF as a redshirt junior in 2025-26 following three years at Ohio. He averaged 13.2 points per game and shot 38.8 percent from 3-point range in 2024-25. A 6-foot-4 guard, Brown has scored 731 career points and has six 20-point performances, including a career-high 28 in the 2023 MAC Tournament vs. Ball State.

AJ Brown
AJ Brown averaged 13.2 points at Ohio last season.

“AJ is a guy that’s flown under the radar a little bit as far as bringing him in,” Golden said. “He’s just a really efficient scorer, a guy that can finish from two, really shot the ball well from three last year – a guy, as we’re putting these pieces together, will provide punch for us and a guy that can make shots. I think that’s something that we needed with the frontcourt that we play and adding some other new guys to the perimeter, but just an efficient, effective scorer, a guy that’s done it for a couple years and a guy that really wanted to be here. As you guys know, that’s really important to me.”

The older brother of Florida guard Isaiah Brown, AJ Brown shot .471 from the field, .388 from 3-point range and .820 from the free throw line last season and earned Academic All-MAC honors in the classroom. As a freshman in 2022-23, Brown averaged 10.3 points and was named to the MAC All-Freshman team. He received a redshirt for the 2023-24 campaign after his season was cut short by injury with just nine games played. In high school, Brown won two FHSAA 2A state championships at Orlando Christian Prep.

Fland, from Bronx, N.Y., averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds at Arkansas during his freshman season, starting 18 of his 21 appearances. Fland posted four 20-point outings last season, including a season-high 24 with five 3-point field goals in a win vs. Oakland. Fland posted a 3.45 assist-to-turnover ratio and had a double-double with 12 points and 11 assists vs. North Carolina A&T.

Boogie Fland Recruiting Visit
Boogie Fland averaged 13.5 points as a freshman at Arkansas and earned an NBA Combine Invitation.

“He’s definitely a great NBA prospect and a guy that I anticipate not being on this campus for a long time,” Golden said. “If he has a good year next year, I would anticipate him moving on, which is awesome. And my hope is that we can help him get to that goal of his. With him and Xaivian [Lee] and the guys that we’re bringing back, I’m just excited for this group to get here on June 9 and see what we can start putting together.”

A 2024 McDonald’s All-American, Fland also earned selection to the Jordan Brand Classic, the USA Basketball Nike Hoop Summit and the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Select Team. He was named Mr. New York Basketball by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York. Fland, who attended Archbishop Stepinac High School, becomes the first Gator from New York City since Brooklyn’s Erving Walker (2008-11).

Brown and Fland join the Gators’ 2025 incoming class that includes transfer guard Xaivian Lee and freshmen Alex Lloyd and CJ Ingram.
