All-SEC Honors Awarded to Alabama’s Podium Finishers Following SEC Outdoor Championships
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama track and field saw all eight of its podium finishers accumulate All-Southeastern Conference honors, the league office announced Tuesday.
Highlighted among the eight UA honorees were first-team recipients Victor Kiprop and Samuel Ogazi from the men’s squad and Doris Lemngole from the women’s team.
The All-SEC First Team consists of the top finisher in each event, while the second team consists of the second-place finishers. The third team is comprised of the third-place finisher in each event. Ties are not broken.
Alabama’s First Team All-SEC Honorees
- After using a come-from-behind, home-stretch sprint to secure his fourth consecutive 10,000-meter title (30:10.85), Victor Kiprop earned first-team honors and gave Alabama its eighth straight conference gold medal in the event
- Doris Lemngole secured first-team honors after capturing gold in both the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:20.83) and 5,000-meter run (15:11.62)
- Samuel Ogazi became the first UA men’s 400-meter runner to win gold in the event since 2011, as his 45.04 performance propelled him to First Team All-SEC recognition
Alabama’s Second Team All-SEC Honorees
- In her first outdoor track and field conference championship, Katelyn Adel captured silver in the women’s heptathlon, behind a personal-best 5,619-point total
- Trevor Gunzell gathered second-team recognition after recording a 63.44-meter (208-2) performance in men’s discus
- Mariia Horielova needed only her first attempt in the women’s long jump event final (6.37m | 20-10.75) to secure her second-place finish and achieve second-team honors
Alabama’s Third Team All-SEC Honorees
- Hammer thrower RJ Decker used a PR-setting, 68.39-meter throw (224-2) on his second attempt to win bronze and gather third-team recognition
- UA distance runner Dismus Lokira earned third-team honors after accumulating two bronze-medal finishes in the 5,000-meter (13:50.44) and the 10,000-meter (30:19.60) races
