TALLAHASSEE – The No. 5 Florida State softball team (49-10) defeated the Auburn Tigers (35-26), 4-0, on Sunday afternoon in a winner-take-all game seven to advance to host the Tallahassee Super Regional. This marks the 11th time FSU has reached the NCAA Super Regionals in the last 12 seasons and the 12th overall NCAA Super Regional for the Noles.

After dropping the first game 8-3, the Noles picked up momentum right away in the final game. The Tigers hit back-to-back singles to leadoff the game, but Ashtyn Danley recorded back-to-back strikeouts and a pop up to keep Auburn off the board.

Isa Torres once again sparked the offense with a leadoff single. Taking advantage of the baserunner, senior Michaela Edenfield blasted a two-run home run to center field to put the Seminoles on the board early. With the home run, Edenfield is now at 50 RBI this season and joins Jessi Warren as the only other Seminole to record 50+ RBI in three separate seasons.

After a couple of scoreless innings, Auburn looked to be in business in the fourth inning with runners on first and second and no outs. Auburn grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. As Florida State secured the first two outs, the runner from second attempted to score on the play. First baseman Angelee Bueno fired home, and Edenfield applied the tag at the plate for the triple play, turning the Seminole Softball Complex into a frenzy. The triple play was FSU’s first since April 1, 2017, against Pitt.

The Tigers threatened again in the top of the fifth as three walks loaded the bases with two outs. Rose Roach poked one towards the 5-6 hole, but Torres made a diving stop and fired it to third from her knees just in time to end the inning.

Scoreless since the first inning, Florida State extended its lead to 3-0 in the fifth when freshman Shelby McKenzie came in to pinch hit and launched her second career home run and her second home run of the Tallahassee Regional.

Auburn loaded the bases again in the top of the sixth, but Krystina Hartley made a great catch at second on a hard hit line drive to keep the Tigers off the board again.

Jaysoni Beachum reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the sixth, and Annie Potter came up with a huge two-RBI double to give the Noles another insurance run.

Jazzy Francik recorded three outs on just nine innings to seal the win for FSU. Francik recorded her eighth save of the season, just two saves away from tying Kathryn Sandercock’s single-season saves record. Danley improved to 14-1 on the season after throwing five shutout innings with three strikeouts. Danley has not allowed an earned run in her last 17 innings which spans across six appearances.

The Seminoles advanced to play No. 12 Texas Tech in the Tallahassee Super Regional. Dates and times will be announced later tonight after the conclusion of all NCAA Regional games. Tickets will go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. at seminoles.com/tickets
