TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 2 Florida State baseball team wraps up the regular season with a series against No. 4 North Carolina from May 15-17 at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida.
The series begins with two contests on the ACC Network at 7 p.m. ET, on Thursday, May 15, and Friday, May 16. The regular-season finale is on Saturday, May 17, at 2 p.m. ET. Tickets are available at Seminoles.com/Tickets or by calling the FSU ticket office at 850-644-1830. Admission is free for all FSU students with their FSU I.D. at the Haggard Plaza right field gate.
Thursday is Throwback Thursday, with a retro theme at Howser and throwback gear available for fans to purchase. Friday is Senior Day, and fans are encouraged to arrive early for a pregame ceremony honoring FSU’s senior class that will begin at 6:35 p.m. Saturday is Armed Forces Day, with a color guard and flyover during the national anthem at 1:55 p.m. There will be a hand fan giveaway to early-arriving fans on Friday at the Champions First Credit Union booth in Haggard Plaza, and the first 400 fans at the gates on Saturday will get an Armed Forces Day t-shirt, presented by TOC.
Thursday and Friday’s games will be broadcast live on the ACC Network, and Saturday’s finale is on ACC Network Extra, accessible through your television provider or a subscription to ESPN+. Florida State’s three weekend starting pitchers have remained the same for the entirety of the regular season, with a trio of lefthanders set to take the mound. Junior Jamie Arnold (6-1, 2.21 ERA) gets the ball in the opener against right-handed graduate student Jake Knapp (10-0, 2.03 ERA). On Friday, redshirt junior Joey Volini (8-3, 3.18 ERA) will face sophomore righty Jason DeCaro (7-3, 3.55 ERA). Sophomore Wes Mendes (6-2, 4.81 ERA) will start for FSU on Saturday, with UNC’s starter to be determined.
Florida State is 36-11 overall, 23-5 at home, 12-6 on the road and 1-0 at a neutral site. FSU is 16-8 in the ACC and in first place with a .667 winning percentage. Winners of four of their last five, the Seminoles are coming off a series win at Cal, the team’s 10th series victory of the year and sixth in eight ACC weekends.
In a rematch between two teams that faced off in the College World Series last year, FSU and UNC meet as ranked opponents outside of Omaha for the first time since 2017, when North Carolina was No. 8 and Florida State was No. 12. This year, the Seminoles are 6-4 against top-25 foes, a mark that includes a series win over No. 3 Clemson two weeks ago, the first top-five matchup at Howser in 2025.

The Seminoles are ranked in the top six in every major poll this week, including at No. 2 in the D1Baseball top 25. They also are No. 2 in the Coaches poll and The Athletic rankings, No. 3 by the NCBWA, No. 5 according to Baseball America and No. 6 in the Perfect Game top-25. FSU’s RPI is No. 9.

FSU has scored 384 runs on 518 hits with a .318 batting average, 87 home runs, 211 walks and 60 stolen bases. The pitching staff owns a 4.49 ERA with 200 earned runs allowed in 400.2 innings with 335 hits, 486 strikeouts and 211 walks.
Junior infielder Alex Lodise leads the team with a .431 batting average, 84 hits, 61 RBI, 16 doubles and 152 total bases and is second with 16 home runs. Junior outfielder Max Williams paces the squad with 17 homers and sophomore outfielder Chase Williams has 14 stolen bases. Junior outfielder Gage Harrelson is second with a .352 average 68 hits and 13 stolen bases while junior infielder Drew Faurot has 47 RBIs, second on the team. On the mound, redshirt junior left-hander Joey Volini is 8-3 with a 3.18 ERA, 85 strikeouts and 20 walks in 70.2 innings. Junior lefty Jamie Arnold is 6-1 with a 2.21 ERA with 82 strikeouts in 61.0 innings. Among relievers, redshirt senior righty Joe Charles is 2-0 with a 3.55 ERA in 25.1 innings with 35 strikeouts.
SERIES HISTORY VS. NORTH CAROLINA
The Seminoles are 73-38 all-time against the Tar Heels, including 37-15 at home, 21-21 in Chapel Hill and 15-2 at a neutral site. The series began with a 3-2 win in Tallahassee in 1956. FSU has the longest win streaks in the series, with seven consecutive wins from 1995-97 and again from 1998-2000, with just one loss in between those stretches. From 1995-2001, Florida State took 19 of 21. FSU won two-of-three at home in 2021 before UNC took all three in Chapel Hill in 2022, the last two times the clubs squared off before last season’s meeting in Omaha.
In an elimination game at the 2024 College World Series on June 18, Florida State notched a 9-5 win to advance to the national semifinal. Faurot drove home the first run in the second, Lodise, Jaxson West and Max Williams all singled home a run in a four-run fifth and West and Williams homered in the ninth. West had four hits and Williams three in the win. On the mound, Connor Hults held the Tar Heels to two hits in the final 4.1 innings to earn the win.

UNC split a rain-shortened series against No. 16 NC State last weekend, with an 8-1 win followed by an 8-5 defeat. The loss snapped a five game win streak. Carolina had won six consecutive weekend series before the two-game in-state set. Against top-25 opponents, the Tar Heels are 2-1, with a 5-4 win in 11 innings over No. 24 Coastal Carolina to go along with the NC State series.

The weekend began with an 8-2 win, as Faurot extended his hit streak to 12 consecutive at-bats to tie the FSU record. FSU trailed 2-0 after three innings but rallied to tie it in the fourth and take the lead in the fifth. The Seminoles suffered a 5-0 loss the following day thanks to a run in the third and four in the fifth for the home team to even the series. Florida State secured the series win on Sunday with single runs in the middle three innings and two insurance tallies in the eighth. Sophomore third baseman Cal Fisher had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored to extend his career-long hit streak to 14 games.
