TALLAHASSEE –  Sophomore standout Isa Torres was named a Top 10 Finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year award on Wednesday afternoon. This is the second consecutive year FSU has had a top 10 finalist for the award as Jaysoni Beachum was a finalist for the award last season.

Torres has been as good as they come this season for FSU as she has emerged as one of the best hitters in the country in FSU’s leadoff position. Torres is hitting a staggering .447 with eight home runs and 44 RBI. Torres has 88 hits this season which is third in the country and ranks fifth all-time in FSU history. More impressively, Torres is hitting .438 against top 25 teams which was the highest average of any of the top 25 finalists for the award. Torres has recorded a hit in 47 out of FSU’s 55 games this season and has reached base in 51 out of FSU’s 55 games. Torres has also been rock solid at shortstop with a .961 fielding percentage and making countless highlight plays at the position.

The three finalists for the award will be named on May 19 with the winner being announced on May 28 in Oklahoma City.
