Alabama Rowing Finishes Third at Inaugural SEC Championship
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – At the inaugural Southeastern Conference Rowing Championship, the Alabama Crimson Tide collected a third-place team finish Sunday at the Melton Lake Rowing venue in Oak Ridge, Tenn., as four UA crews reached the podium across six races.
The Crimson Tide captured consecutive third-place finishes in the Third Varsity 4+ (7:58.842) and Third Varsity 8+ (6:57.932) boats. Before the day was done, Alabama’s 1V4+ (7:20.955) and 2V8+ (6:43.847) crews secured mirroring, bronze medal-winning finishes in back-to-back races.
Texas took first behind 83 points, while Tennessee finished second with 78 points. Alabama’s 35 points came in third, as Oklahoma finished fourth with 34 points.
“I am super proud of how the team raced today – we had some great results in a lot of the events. What really stood out was how well the SEC put on this conference championship; it was first class. This was the most detail, I’ve seen, put in to making the student-athlete experience special. To have our crews go out there, in this environment, and get the results that they did was really gratifying.”
