TALLAHASSEE – Florida State softball’s sophomore standout Isa Torres was named a Top 25 Finalist for the USA Softball National Player of the Year on Wednesday afternoon.

Torres has been phenomenal at the top of the lineup for the Seminoles all season. Torres is hitting a team-high .443 with 78 hits. Her 78 hits are the most in the ACC and the third-most in the country. The sophomore from Georgetown, Texas, has recorded a hit in 41 out of FSU’s 49 games this season and has reached base in 44 out of the 49 games. Torres has been putting together quality at bats all season long as she has only struck out three times in 176 at bats. Torres has also showed some power with seven home runs and 39 RBI this season.

Defensively, Torres has one of the best gloves at the shortstop position in the entire country. Torres has made just six errors in 146 chances and has made countless highlight plays at the position this season.

Torres will look to become FSU’s third National Player of the Year and the first FSU hitter to win the award. Jessica van der Linden won the award in 2004 and Lacey Waldrop won the award in 2014.
