No. 4 Alabama Scores 197.425, Comes Up Short to No. 6 Georgia
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 4 Alabama gymnastics team (9-5, 4-4 SEC) came up just short, 197.525-197.425, to No. 6 Georgia (15-3, 5-3 SEC) Friday night in Coleman Coliseum. Highlighted by a 49.600 rotation score on the uneven bars, the Crimson Tide continued its perfect streak of scoring at or above a 197.125 this season.
UA collected multiple individual honors, as three different gymnasts accumulated six event titles, highlighted by three from senior all-arounder Gabby Gladieux (uneven bars, floor exercise, all-around). Chloe LaCoursiere and Azaraya Ra-Akbar shared the bars title, while LaCoursiere also won the beam outright.
“First of all, I just want to thank our fans. I feel like this whole home meet season, the fans have really added energy and excitement, and done a great job making Coleman special to compete in. I just want them to know that they are difference makers, and part of the reason athletes come to Alabama. What stood out to me tonight was the fight. I could see our team rally and fight for every single moment and that was our goal tonight – to give everything we could into each moment, and I think we did that. There were a few moments that didn’t go the way we wanted, or needed them to, but we kept fighting and giving everything we could into the moment. That is a win for me and something we can absolutely build on. If we hadn’t given everything, that is where you get regret, and I don’t feel like we have that tonight.
“There were a couple of stinging moments tonight, but if I know anything about this team, those are the moments that drive us for greatness. Every single person can look in the mirror and think, ‘how do I get one-tenth better.’ While we came up a bit short tonight, we have a lot more in us as a team. I saw how re-energizing tonight was for each person and their excitement to compete, so we can take a sting when it drives us for something more.”
