Florida State Concludes Sunday Matchup

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State men’s tennis team (8-8, 0-4) ACC) fell 4-3 to No. 4 Wake Forest (17-2, 4-0) on Sunday afternoon.

The Demon Deacons took the early 1-0 lead by winning two of three doubles courts. Florida State duo of Oren Ezerzer and Gabor Hornung started the courts hot with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 position. Wake Forest took control of court 2, with a 6-3 win against FSU’s Jan Sebesta and Erik Schiessl. Both teams were in position to clinch the doubles point before Mess Rottgering and Kacper Syzmkowiak of Wake Forest won the tightly contested match against Justin Lyons and Mohammad Alkotop.

In sinlges, Florida State was able to strike first to get on the board with No. 118 Azariah Rusher winning court four 6-3, 6-2. Corey Craig kept the Seminoles in the fight with a 7-5, 6-4 win over a top 20 opponent, No. 18 Dk Suresh Ekambaram. Wake Forest responded with an answer on court one against No.78 Schiessl, tying the match 2-2. Justin Lyons followed with a 0-6, 6-4, 7-5 win to regain control before Wake Forest made a statement on court five with No. 71 Aryan Shah defeating Hornung with a three-set battle to tie the match once again.

 

 

The deciding factor came down to court three with Alkotop leading the way in the first set, before No. 15 Luca Pow answered in the second set and eventually clinched the match.

Florida State will face off against Clemson in South Carolina on Friday at 5:00 p.m., before heading to Atlanta in a matchup against Georgia Tech on Sunday at noon.
