Record-Breaking No. 7 Florida sweeps Gators Invitational
Florida went wire-to-wire and won the 54th Gators Invitational by 18 strokes while shooting a program-record 820 (-20) 54-hole tournament score and beating the previous record by 15 shots. In the opening round, the Gators reset the tournament low round record by score with a 271 (-9), three shots better than the previous record.
After tying the 54-hole tournament record (202) in the spring opener, Francisco broke the 10-year program record with a final score of 200 (-10) to capture her first collegiate win. In round two, she tied for the second-lowest round in program history with a 65 (-5). The junior closed with a final round of 67 (-3) to win by five shots. The weekend performance boosted new career-bests in round, tournament score and finish as she owned two runner-up finishes. Francisco has spring outings of 2-T15-T20-1.
Florida’s victory is the is the 28th all-time in the 54th playing of the Gators Invitational, which started in 1973 as Francisco is the 12th UF golfer to claim medalist honors at the home tournament. The Gator sweep is the 11th occurrence all-time and in back-to-back seasons for first time since 2007-08 and just the fourth time overall. Additionally, the Gators have won 10 of the last 11 Gators Invitationals dating back to 2016.
The tournament title is the fourth this season and 40th all-time under head coach Emily Glaser; 41st total as she was an assistant coach for a season in 2011-12. It is the third straight season with three-plus single-season wins and back-to-back with four-plus victories. This is the fourth season under Glaser of four-plus tournament titles in a season and the 11th in program history.
Since the 2023-24 season, the Gators have won 12 tournaments and posted 26 top-5 and 19 to-3 outings across 31 tournaments.
The victory by both the men and women’s teams at the Gators Invitationals in the same season is the 16th time in program history, including back-to-back seasons and the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
All five in lineup finished in the top-12 as Siuue Wu captured a career-best T2 finish with a career-best tournament score 205 (-5). The sophomore set her new career-low with a 65 (-5) in round one, which tied the second-lowest in program history as Francisco also tied the mark in round two.
Megan Propeck shot her weekend low with a 67 (-3) to produce a 54-hole score of 208 (-2) and finish 6th to increase her team-best seventh top-25 and fifth top-10. Addison Klonowski also had her low round for the tournament today with a 69 (-1) and placed 12th as freshman Katelyn Huber snagged her fifth top-10 and seventh top-25 with a T9 in her Gators Invitational debut.
Leading the individuals competing, sophomore Elaine Widjaja earned a career-best finish in solo 5th at 3-under. The finish was a career-best as her tournament score (207) was a new low as she tied her low round (67) in round two.
Florida concludes the spring season at the Clemson Invitational (March 27-29) before beginning postseason play at the SEC Championship from April 17-21 in Belleair, Fla. at Pelican Golf Club.
