No. 26 Florida State, Pudas Remler Earn Runner-Up Finishes at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate
Florida State defeated Texas by one stroke in the third and final round but ultimately fell to the Longhorns by two strokes, 854-856. Remler battled O’Keefe through the entire tournament before falling by one stroke. Florida State’s Pudas Remler won the second round battle while the pair finished tied in the final round. The Seminole sophomore carded scores of 69-66-72 for a three round total of 207. O’Keefe carded scores of 64-67-68 for a 54-hole total of 206.
The Seminoles finished ahead of No. 5 Auburn (fifth place), No. 6 Wake Forest (tied for sixth), No. 8 Arkansas (third), No. 12 Duke (fourth), No. 14 Vanderbilt (10th), No. 15 Ole Miss (13th), No. 18 South Carolina (17th), No. 20 and defending national champion Northwestern (ninth), No, 21 Arizona State (18th), and No. 23 Arizona (14th).
Pudas Remler carded three scores in the 60s for the first time in her career, totaled a career-best 207 total, and finished in a career-best second place. She has now earned two top-10 finishes this spring with a tied for 10th place finish at the Collegiate Invitational at the Guadalajara Country Club.
Florida State sophomore Sophia Fullbrook finished in eighth place with scores of 71-72-70 for an even par total of 213. She played her best golf in the final round with a 1 under par score of 70 in a round that included three birdies. Fullbrook finished the third round at 2 under par as she and the Seminoles worked to chase down the Longhorns over the final nine holes.
Seminoles freshman Haruhi Nakatani also carded a 1 under par score of 70 in the final round and finished in a tie for 21st place with a 4 over par score of 217. She was even par on the back nine in the final round as she carded her best round of the championship.
Pudas Remler participated in the first ever walk-and-talk with a collegiate player by the Golf Channel during the round.
“Florida State is so much more than just golf,” said Pudas Remler. “It’s a whole community and its feels like I joined a family. The whole athletic department is working towards the one goal of winning national championships.”
Florida State plays next in the Old Barnwell Match Play Championship (March 16-17) at the Old Barnwell Golf Club in Aiken, S.C, before playing host to the Florida State Match Up (March 20-22) at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
