Bassong Records First Career Double-Double in Seminoles’ Win at Georgia Tech
Florida State improved to 15-14 on the season and 8-8 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets fell to 11-18 overall and 2-14 in the ACC.
The Seminoles controlled the glass, outrebounding Georgia Tech 44-34. Of those 44 rebounds, 18 of them were offensive boards that Florida State turned into 18 second-chance points.
Florida State capitalized on the transition. The Seminoles outscored Georgia Tech 17-2 in the fastbreak points category.
The Seminoles lead Georgia Tech wire-to-wire. The Yellow Jackets would cut Florida State’s lead to just three, 53-50, with 14:29 to play. Over the next eight minutes, the Seminoles would outscore Georgia Tech 15-5 to take a 68-55 lead and close out their eighth ACC victory.
Senior Chauncey Wiggins opened the game by going 2-2 from the free-throw line.
Wiggins would finish the game with 12 points, two blocks, a rebound, and a steal. Wiggins has scored in double-figures 20 times this season.
Florida State led 20-14 with 12:04 to play in the first half. An 8-0 A run sparked by an Alex Steen put-back extended the Seminoles’ lead to 12, 28-16.
The Seminoles had a 40-26 lead with 2:58 remaining before Georgia Tech ended the half on a 12-1 run and cut the lead to five.
Florida State led Georgia Tech 41-36 at the half.
The Seminoles held a slim 53-50 lead with 14:29 to play. Florida State would hold Georgia Tech without a made field goal for the next nine minutes to take a 68-58 lead with 5:52 to play.
A fast break alley-oop slam from Bassong would seal the win for the Seminoles.
