No. 4/6 Softball Splits Doubleheader at Judi Garman Classic

FULLERTON, Calif. – The No. 4/6 Florida softball team (22-1) split its two games on Friday at the Judi Garman Classic, dropping a back-and-forth 15-12 decision to No. 8/9 UCLA, before picking up a 7-5 win over LMU in the nightcap.

Ella Wesolowski led the Gators at the plate between the two games, hitting .667 (4-for-6) with three doubles and a home run. She matched a single-game program record of three doubles against the Bruins, a new career-high.

The Fullerton, Calif., native, Taylor Shumaker drove in a team-best five runs on the day, slugging a pair of solo home runs against UCLA, matching her career-best of four hits against the Bruins.

Despite taking the loss against UCLA, Keagan Rothrock (10-1) rebounded with a victory in the circle against LMU, her 10th of the season.

NOTABLES:

  • Leah Stevens struck out the side for the first time in her career against UCLA in the top of the seventh inning, getting the No. 2, 3 & 4 hitters in the Bruin lineup swinging
  • Ella Wesolowski became just the third Gator to hit three doubles in the same game in program history and first against a Power 4 opponent

    • Nicole Kreipl hit three against Florida A&M on March 11, 2003, and Cheyenne Lindsey hit three against Georgia Southern Feb. 21, 2021

  • Taylor Shumaker matched her career-best of four hits vs. UCLA. She also had four hits earlier this season against FIU on Feb. 14
  • With two solo home runs against the Bruins, Shumaker recorded her second multi-home run performance of the season and sixth of her career
  • Through four games in California, Shumaker has batted a team best .647 (11-for-17) with 15 RBI, three home runs, three doubles, three walks and a sacrifice fly
  • Madison Walker hit her third home run against the Lions, the game-winning two-run home run in the top of the seventh
  • Florida’s 21 hits against the Bruins are the most UCLA has ever allowed in a single game in program history
  • The Gators had 42 at-bats against the Bruins, their most in a game since March 7, 2020, against Auburn
