Claverie Clinches First SEC Victory Over No. 41 Wildcats

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Gators end their stretch of away matches with a win over No. 41 Kentucky. Florida is now 55-18 against Kentucky and are 2-0 over the Wildcats this season. The Gators improve their overall record to 7-5 and are 1-2 in the SEC.

It all came down to court one to decide the doubles point between the Gators and the Wildcats. The ‘Cats took court three, winning 6-2 over the Gators’ Kevin Edengren and Andreas Timini. Court two finished shortly after, with Pablo Perez Ramos and Tanapatt Nirundorn taking a 6-3 win. Kentucky walked away with the doubles point after a long tie break between No. 89 Lorenzo Claverie/Henry Jefferson and No. 23 Eli Stephenson and Jack Loutit of Kentucky. The two doubles pairs played out the match to 13-11, with each team having three match points apiece.

The Gators turned the corner in singles, winning courts one, two, three, and five. Ramos got the first Florida point on court two, defeating No. 16 Eli Stephenson 6-2, 6-3. Jefferson immediately followed on court one for the Gators where he defeated No. 94 Nicolas Arseneault 7-5, 6-1. Edengren fought his way to a three-set victory over Mikael Arseneault 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(7-4), putting the Gators up 3-1. Losses on courts four and six by Jeremy Jin and Timini evened the score 3-3. Claverie clinched the match for the Gators on court three. After a first set loss, Claverie fought his way to two tiebreaks winning 7-6(7-3) and 7-6(7-1).
