Georgia Travels to Texas for Two SEC Road Tests

ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia men’s tennis team hits the road to Texas for two Southeastern Conference road test against Texas A&M on Friday, February 27 at 7 p.m. before heading to Austin to face Texas on Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out: Georgia started SEC play with two upset wins against then-No. 5 LSU and then-No. 15 Florida.

 

 

SHUTOUT STREAK

The Bulldogs did not allow a point in their nonconference wins, recording seven shutouts. The streak continued into conference play against LSU but was broken with Florida winning one singles match. 

 

SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Noah Johnston has been named the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week following his performances in the Bulldogs’ upsets over LSU and Florida. 

 

Johnston, a native of Anderson, S.C., was the first singles match off the court against then- No. 5 LSU and was the first Bulldog to add a point in singles for Georgia against then- No. 15 Florida.  He held his opponent to four games or fewer per set in both matches. Additionally, he and partner Derrick Chen won their doubles match against Florida on court three, contributing to the Bulldogs claiming the doubles point. 

 

STRENGTH IN DOUBLES

Georgia has won the doubles point in each of their wins so far this season. 

 

Bulldogs in the rankings: Georgia cracked its way into the top-25, landing at No. 13 in this week’s ITA rankings. One doubles pair and four singles are in the rankings this week (Feb. 19):
