Four Podium Finishes Highlight Final Night of SEC Championships
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Alabama swimming and diving team added four bronze-medal performances on the final night of competition at the Southeastern Conference Championships.
Emily Jones, Cadence Vincent and Tommy Hagar highlighted the individual races as all three earned bronze medals Saturday night. Jones (1:52.35) and Hagar (1:38.40) earned podium finishes for the Tide in the 200 backstroke, while Vincent (47.06) earned a medal in the 100 freestyle.
The Tide also secured a bronze medal with the 400 freestyle relay team of Vincent, Charlotte Rosendale, Jones and Gaby Van Brunt (3:10.48).
Throughout the week, Jones claimed a total of six medals to pace UA as Vincent tallied five. Additionally, the women’s team saw four of five relay teams finish in the top three.
Alabama captured a fourth-place finish on the women’s side with 689 points, while the men’s team finished in sixth with 642.5.
“What a fantastic way to conclude SECs. To have four medals on the final night is really exciting and a testament to the hard work we’ve put in throughout the year.
“Very proud of how the team competed this week. We saw breakthrough performances, podium finishes every single night, and some of the fastest swims in Alabama program history. Excited to get back to Tuscaloosa and continue our preparations for NCAA championships in a few weeks.”

- Cadence Vincent’s career-best 100 free time secured her second individual medal and moved her to second all-time in program history
- Emily Jones dropped nearly a second off her entry time to move from the ninth seed to third in the 200 back with the help of a season-best 1:52.35
- Tommy Hagar used a 1:38.40 to earn a spot on the podium in the 200 backstroke
- Earlier in the day, he clocked 1:37.92 to better his school record in the event and take the top time in the morning session
- Kate Christian clocked a career-best 1:54.99 in the C finals of the 200 back to move to sixth in program history
- Cole Witmer’s 1:39.64 time in the 200 backstroke prelims moved him to fourth all-time in program history
- Giele’s collegiate-best 100 free time of 48.47 ranks 10th all-time in program history
- Sean Niewold jumped to sixth all-time in program history with a 41.93 swim during the 100 free prelims
- Both relay performances were season-best performances for the Tide

- The Alabama divers will head to the NCAA Zone B Championships in Athens, Ga.
- The six-day competition will begin March 6 and will serve as the qualifier for the NCAA Championships
