No. 7 Softball Splits Doubleheader with Dartmouth and No. 9 Alabama
FSU 10 Dartmouth 2 (6 inn)
The Noles took no time getting on the scoreboard in the first inning against the Big Green. Marin Heller doubled to left field, and she scored on another left field double off the bat of Ashtyn Danley shortly after. Danley scored the Noles’ second run on a single by Anna Hinde.
The trend of FSU doubles continued in the second inning, with Shelby McKenzie doubling to open the inning and scoring on a double by Isa Torres. In the third inning, Danley nailed a triple to right field and plated her second run of the night on a sacrifice fly by Hinde to bring the score to 4-0.
Danley pitched three hitless innings to start the game, before the Big Green recorded two hits and plated two runs in the fourth inning. Danley left the game after 3.2 innings, with two strikeouts and 54 pitches in her seventh appearance of the season. Makenna Reid relieved Danley in the circle to close the fourth with a strikeout.
To respond to the Big Green’s fourth inning scores, Makenna Sturgis walked to start the bottom of the fourth, and she advanced to third on a double by Bella Ruggiero. Both runners scored on a triple down the right field line by Torres. On the following play, Torres scored on a single by Heller to bring the score to 7-2.
To begin the fifth inning, Hinde singled and then stole second, marking her first career stolen base. Hinde then scored on a throwing error after Kennedy Harp put the ball in play and reached on a fielder’s choice. Hayley Griggs entered the game as a pinch runner for Harp, and she scored on a sacrifice fly by Sturgis for a 9-2 Noles lead.
Torres ended the game on a run rule at the beginning of the sixth inning, with a center field bomb for an inside the park home run. In total, Torres had three hits on four plate appearances.
